The idea of the traditional American family was shaken during the depression. Many men left their families in search of work. However, women returned to their traditional posts as cooks and cleaners in the house. However, fewer marriages happened and less children were born. The flapper days were over- the carefree youth of that era vanished in favor of simple sack feed dresses and coats.
